What does Pet Wants offer?
Everything food and nutrition related for cats and dogs. We focus on different kinds of food (dry, gently cooked, air dried, freeze dried, and raw), treats, chews, and natural supplements.
What motivated the start of the business?
Our own two dogs (a male and female Shiba Inu) have required a home cooked diets due to allergies, food intolerances, and general pickiness! We struggled to find a good commercial alternative without soy, corn, wheat, and byproducts; and realized that making it ourselves was the easiest route for us. We want to help other pet owners by making their lives easier, and to help them help their pets.
What makes Pet Wants unique?
We have almost a decade of experience of formulating meals for pets with two thriving dogs to show for it. We have worked with pet nutrition extensively and are passionate about helping dog and cat owners navigate the confusion, and often overwhelming, pet food industry. People often tell us that they appreciate knowing that they can stop by or call, and we will spend time talking through, discussing, and researching options that fit their pet. We try to curate (if we cannot make it ourselves) only the best and cleanest products on the market. Something that is also unique about Pet Wants Rockville is that we make our own treats and supplements, as well as small batch, gently cooked dry food. Unlike most dry food on the market, our food is made in monthly batches, guaranteeing that the food you feed your pet will be weeks old – not a year old! We also make a wonderful skin and fur care line in house, including Paw Wax and a Tick and Flea Repellant. Finally, we also offer free delivery (often same day) within Montgomery county!
Why did you choose to run your business in Rockville?
We chose Rockville because it’s a vibrant, pet-loving community where people truly care about the health and well-being of their animals. We saw a need for a store that focuses on high-quality, natural products and personalized care for pets. Rockville felt like the perfect place to bring that vision to life because the community values healthy lifestyles — not just for themselves, but for their pets too.
Where do you see your business in 5 years from now?
We plan to expand our staff, bring in more good products, and keep educating ourselves on the newest developments in pet food. We regularly host local rescue and foster organizations for adoption events, as well as local trainers. In 5 years, we hope to grow the pet community in Rockville, facilitate the adoption of many more pets, introduce healthy eating to more pets, and help more owners connect with amazing positive reinforcement trainers in the area. We hope that we will become the go-to location whenever someone asks, “where should I turn to improve my pet’s health and wellbeing?”
